    Tools of the Trade

I went to Colvin Run Mill twice in the past two days and posted photos here and here. One of the attractions on the property is a working blacksmith shop. It's a very cluttered place so I isolated some of the tools. Even so, I tried to use the clutter just enough to hopefully provide environmental context.

Mike...I can visualize the smithy hammering the red-hot steel with the sparks a-flying.

Fascinating. The texture on the handwrought tools caught well. Black and white was a good choice.

Did the smithy make the vise as well? It seems to be that slightly irregular shape I expect form something made by eye. Or maybe it's just so bashed up

    Re: Tools of the Trade

    Thanks, guys!

I have no idea, Trevor, if a smithy made the vise. I have only seen a smithy there once and he told me that there is a group of volunteers that provide demonstrations. He explained that the demonstrations hadn't been conducted in quite awhile and that he was working on reinvigorating the program. That was a long time ago and I don't know whether the shop is being used these days.

Interesting series Mike. Nicely processed for texture which shows well. I love old tools. Quite a few of my carpentry tools are rescued wooden planes etc.

I have one like it . I have seen a couple in old black smiths shops around the gold towns around here.

    Mike,
I really enjoy your work. Tools, artifacts and such always hold a fascination for me and these photographs do a fine job of conveying some of that feeling.

Continued thanks to everyone. I could spend a lifetime making industrial photographs, so I especially enjoyed the public access to these tools.
