Red on red, Black on black
The weekend continued to favour the inside shot, and I came up with these - I've been experimenting with the same colour for subject and background for a while, I particularly like the red berries and the blackberries aren't bad. Have yet to get green on green right, maybe there are just too many shades of green ?
Hope you like them - thoughts for improvement also welcome

These are lovely, so much so that I am going to have to try to do something similarly creative. It's like black and white but much more interesting. There is so much in them with variations of tone, texture and light and the small bits of different colour add life.

Re: Red on red, Black on black
I think the blackberry photo is terrific and considerably stronger than the photo of red berries. The texture of the blackberries is so appealing as is their arrangement and overall composition.
The depth of field in the red photo is disarming because the area of the tabletop that is in focus is so far forward of where the clump of berries and tabletop meet. Though I'm inclined to believe the two berries that are in focus are attached to the other berries, there is nothing other than my expectation to indicate that, which is unsettling. That's especially true for the berry in the center, which seems as if it's levitating. (Perhaps it is!

Re: Red on red, Black on black
Kaye, I've got to agree with Mike . The DOF and point of focus of the first image doesn't do you any favours. I have to say that I like the idea and I have a feeling that had you managed a greater depth of focus, the bit of green in the stalks would have added quite a bit of impact. The second shot works much better for me because it is in focus where it's needed and because of the highlights. All of course IMHO.

Hi Kaye,
I'm enjoying see your creativity.. Your leaf shots are my favourites so far. I like the berries in the 2nd image for the beautiful detail and DOF.
In the first image there is something about the bottom half of the photo (just below the berries), perhaps it is just the texture or brightness of the bottom of the photo that appeals less to me. That said, the photo of the red berries appeals immensely to me for the beautiful colour and blurred bokeh of the same colour.

I particularly like the blackberry image. I think the tomato image impact is diluted by the large background and could be strengthened by a close crop, removing most of the foreground, and getting tighter on the left and top. Then that nice detail you have achieved might be a lot more appreciated.

If you haven't placed such a caption many would have expressed the concern of the colors of object Vs background; you wisely and creatively justified what you have done; sometimes a wise caption is like providing the viewer a pair of glasses to view your image; well done

Thanks Nandakumar. The phrase is usually 'a picture tells a thousand words', but like you, I believe a caption can enhance, so promoting the use of words too.
