    Marlow from the Berkshire Bank

Here is my effort from yesterday. I have been trying to get a pano of the white house with the balcony on the Buckinghamshire bank together with All Saints Church and Marlow Bridge.

View at larger size for best result

Much nicer. Not sure what the bushes on the right add to the panorama and the foreground boats area bit distracting. Quite a lot of shadow detail is lost, especially near your original target house which is now on the dark side of the river. The fact that the church spire is smack in the middle tends to divide the picture and all the things you are really interested in are on the left side? Kind regards, Adrian

I like this photo. It, IMHO (I use this a lot), conveys serenity.

That is a nice shot of the Bucks town, Chris, although I would agree that the shadows need lifting on the north bank buildings. The main problem for me is that the boats on the right really tend to dominate the scene - if only there was a rower and/or family of water fowl on the foreground water instead!

This is a nice shot of the area in general as it stands . In this context, I don't find the boats distracting but the fact that you have cut off the bow of the nearest boat does bother me a bit. The trouble is, if you are trying to feature the white house, this view point relegates it to an "also there". The church spire and the red houses dominate. Is there any way you can reduce the angle by going further left? In that way (perhaps) by using a longer lens you might bring the white house into the FG and push the rest of the scene back making it less prominent by using the compression that the longer focal length will produce. You might still make an effective panorama. Just a thought.

Chris - what lenses do you have in your arsenal? Here's a leftfield though for emphasising the white house in this scene.

    Brenizer effect

It's a form of panorama using a shallow DoF. Now from this bank it probably won't work (unless you have a 600mm f1.8 and a truck to mount it on!) but from your previous vantage point on the other bank it may give a different feel to the view.

Nice shot, Chris. There is something odd in the sky though. There is a horizontal zig-zag line about 1cm directly above the church spire, and another one closer to the top of the frame and about 4cm to the right of the first one.

    Thanks for all your replies.

Unfortunately the position on the Berkshire Bank is very limited (small private car park to a gated residential complex), so moving the position is not an option.

I am going for a day on the river for a friends birthday soon and will try a shot from the river then.

What's Marlow like today? I heard the town is flooded, is it as bad as they say on the news?

A beautiful rendition Chris. As others have mentioned, the lead boat on the right is cut off and very prominent in the scene. If you can't move your position perhaps you can reshoot when that lead boat isn't there?
