    Coconut Stick Insect

These are a few from a series I took today of a willing model. I had innocently thought 'cute' to see mother carrying baby hence the shots until I later decided to do some research regarding this species. The female is green, and the male brown and smaller in size, it then twigged

Considered as pests to be eradicated due to the damage they do to the palms which now answers my question as to what had been eating mine. They also emit a fluid which is supposedly aimed at the eye and dangerous to the sight.

Shot with 50mm and 105mm macro handheld. Single SB-600 flash with diffuser on camera hence shadows.

    Nice find Grahame,

Apart from the antennae and mouth parts, even in the close up, the body, eye and legs still look so 'plant like'.

Thank you for the comments guys.

The female had a body length of around 120 mm (4 1/2") but with the colours of both they blend in with the green shade and shape of the palm fronds very well.

I tried to find this one again last night, armed with the tripod, but no luck.
