    The Chosen One

Very opportunistic. Was in the right place at the right time (had to walk a few paces to get the alignment correct).

Not intended to be a classic and I saw it as a bit of fun. But, once I started to get the detail in the sky to come up, it started looking like an okay image.

As always, your comments are welcomed.

I wonder if he or she is a modern day Saint Paul having their epiphany.

Great result from an opportunistic moment.

That was well captured Donald. As you say "Right place, right time" but it still needs the rest of it to be right - and it is.

As much as I like the cloud texture and detail, I suspect a tighter crop with the bright spot in the sky occupying the intersection of the thirds lines at upper left and then crop to more vertical composition might be more compelling.

Was the light beam searching you out? For all your good works. Maybe you shouldn't have moved.

Amazing capture. I'm glad the right photographer was at the right place and the right time.

And the guy on the boat is crapping his pants thinking "is this a good thing or a bad thing?" Time for a reward or time to go?

    Thank you.

I've got another one taken a few seconds earlier that has what I would call a 'sheet' of sunrays coming down. Am still working on that one.

A very strong image, Donald. Not an image one can shoot everyday, everywhere. Great opportunity and great job!

Awesome shot, and well processed. Agree with others, not just the right place and right time, but the right photographer, as well.

Personal opinion, I might prefer a different crop- some off the top and bottom maybe, but I'd have to play around with it to really see. In any case, I still love it.

Carpe Diem, Donald. When opportunity presents grab it by the throat. That's a great picture but, dare I ask .... I wonder what it looks like in colour?

I don't know is the answer. And according to the rules I set myself (When having shot for a B & W image, NEVER seek to make a colour version, even if it might look a possibility ..... and vice versa), I never will know. I know some will think me odd, but there we go!

But this is (albeit with a different crop) a JPG from the unprocessed RAW file set at 'Faithful' in Canon's DPP software

    Re: The Chosen One

Wow! But I'm a sucker for sunrises and sunsets and water and reflections and.... this one has it all. Great colour in the water imho. But, looking back at the B&W with all the detail you have brought out in the sky I'd agree with others here that a crop off the bottom might be in order.

    Re: The Chosen One

    Hi Donald,

I prefer the B&W and I am perfectly happy with the crop.

So from my perspective, you can add "right first time" to "right time", "right place" and "right photographer"

    Cheers,
