I have been doing some equipment changes recently and have not posted for a bit.
I changed out my Sigma 150-500 for a brand spanking new Nikon 200-400VR f/4.

I was able to get it out on the Kayak today for the first time and I am certainly impressed with the focus speed, IQ and overall handling of the lens.

Here are a couple I managed to get today. f/4, 1/1600 at 400mm on all of them. ISO varies slightly

Nice shots. I'm not a bird expert, but I believe the small bird is a sparrow. Don't know the exact species though, as a lot of sparrows look very similar.

Monte Looks like that lens will definitely work with the kayak. I believe its a song sparrow, a super pic.

Inspired by your photos, my husband and I were actually looking at kayaks the other day. Based on our canoe experience last week I'm afraid our old hips are past taking up that particular hobby. So please, keep posting these wonderful images so we may live vicariously through your adventures.

Such different birds but all captured very well.

    Thanks for the feedback.
I was able to observe a mating ritual between several make Red winged Blackbirds and one female today. It was something to see. All of them displaying their colours to the female.
I was in the kayak in a small channel full of bulrushes and very close to them, they did not seem to care about me much
