    Self Discovery

I joined CiC in the year 2011 as a confused girl looking to getting the right equipment and learning to be a professional photographer... I have tried my hands on several types of photography... from Landscape, Fashion, Weddings, Studio etc.. http://www.deolagold.com/

Now, my desire and passion moves me to focus more on Art/Documentary photography... This I see as a tool for telling stories that is environment inspired, visually engaging and relevant.

I have been exploring the self portrait medium which I find therapeutic... I never knew how much uncomfortable I was with my body until I started photographing myself... It did expose my insecurities. I took up this challenge as I must confess my self esteem has greatly improved

Going forward, How can Improve in articulating my Art works (Photography)? Writing creatively and extensively about my works...

    Adeola,

Very nice images. I checked out your website, some very good images, I'm not sure how your portfolio should be viewed. Are the images supposed to be viewed as a slideshow or are these simply thumbnails of your work?

Regarding the writing portion, have you considered "free writing", in five minutes write down everything that comes to mind about your image. Don't critique the image, just state what stands out, what feelings it conjures.

    Adeola,

On the website. When you click on a specific style, four or five images appear in strip form at a smaller size.

    Hi Adeola

Very good images! Are all three self portraits?

Best for me is No. 1

The fact that in all three the face is not visible has a specific meaning or was just more comfortable? I ask since nowadays it is quite common to see faceless human figures in all kind of art and media.

The face not visible to tell the story of colonization of the female body... Been raped of our integrity through commoditization made it difficult to come out Naked (freedom).... as Our nudity is now associated with shame...

    Excellent shots Adeola, well done!

Perfect lighting and the poses are superb too.

Never tried it myself but I imagine that self portraits are extra difficult. I suggest you leave a little more space around the frame so you can crop it in PP and avoid cut fingers and knees.

You definitely need to make large prints of these! Luster papers would fit I think.

    Bravo Adeola.
I've tried my hand at most genres of photography, including portraiture.
Self-portraiture is one that I stay away from. Reveals too much, not enough, not right, whatever. It's too personal for me (at this time) for me to try. Again, bravo.
