    Belted Kingfisher

Digging through some images from last year and found this interesting shot of a Belted Kingfisher with lunch.
Shot with 400mm 2.8 Nikon at 1/1600 and f/2.8 handheld from a kayak. I liked this shot because you get full view of the reddish colouring under the wings.

I'm amazed. Those little dudes are fast... and little. I better get the hawks down first before attempting this! This is a beautiful shot in every way - sharp, good "pose", he's doing something, great colors and separation from the background. Thanks for sharing!

Monte, not much to add to Terri's comments above, except that you can, for sure, be proud of this one! This is such a small bird to be caught in a so great detail level. Very well done.

    Regards...

    Monte:
I just shot one of those yesterday. He was sitting on a branch and I was very pleased with myself at capturing one of these elusive little beggars. I can't imagine being able to get one in flight and so sharp they way you did here. Congratulations. Frame this one and hang it on your wall!

Super - Just great. I'm always thrilled to simply see one - having 400mm ready to go at same time is beyond my wildest fantasy. One thing about these guys, they fly pretty straight (but fast). Maybe a little nervous with that wonderful gear in a kayak?
