Spring might be around the corner
Here in the Seattle area we have had a fairly mild winter, no snow and a short couple week cold spell....however I am so looking forward to somet dry and warm days. Yesterday the fog burned off quickly and I got off early. Stopped in to see if I could find a Pelieated Wood Pecker on the way home. No such luck.
However I did see this acrossed the lake, the 400mm is not just for birds you know. Shot nearly into the sun at ISO400 360mm @ f10 and 1/800 sec
C&C always welcome.

Re: Spring might be around the corner
The bridge and towers are rather square and central; but with so much variation in the background I don't find any problem with the composition.
The only very slight item which I would change is to clone out that very small piece of 'lost' foliage near the top right corner.

Thanks, Geoff. I did not see that little bit.

Re: Spring might be around the corner
Geoff, I can go and clone that out....however I do have a second shot that might work better. This one gets rid of a bit of the busy left side and includes a little more of the lost right side tree. I also warmed it slightly getting rid of a bit of the blue cast.

Yes, I prefer the second shot. Slightly better angle and it seems a little sharper, particularly with the background buildings.

Re: Spring might be around the corner
Yes the second version was worth the extra PP effort. The sun in my part of the world is definitely starting to move towards its winter rising position. From my house in summer it rises behind a headland and I do not see it rising for nearly four four months. It is now rising where I can see it and late enough that I am almost awake so your spring must be getting close.
Plenty to look at in your photo. When does the jigsaw puzzle version become available?

Re: Spring might be around the corner
Thank you, Geoff. I agree. I was fighting a slight bit of moisture left in the air as the fog had just cleared. Behind me there was still a fog bank.
Thank you, Paul. Two more months and we shall be in the thick of it. You are right, I think it would make for a good puzzle.

Paul, very nice image. And I wish you luck next time, finding the wood pecker!

Re: Spring might be around the corner
This is a rare example of when haze is desirable; it provides a nice background that allows the subject to stand out. I wonder if a little more contrast applied to the entire image would help emphasize the subject.

Re: Spring might be around the corner
Mike, just a tiny touch makes a slight difference but as soon as it is noticeable it cuts through a little too much of the haze. I will play with it some. The haze and sun angle do a nice job seperating the bridge from the homes and mountains and I would hate to lose that.

Lovely shot Paul, this and others you share remind me of why I miss the Pacific Northwest so much at times...yep, even the rain, fog and cool temperatures!
