Steuben Glass on a Bright Field

These photos are of the decorative bowl shown here when I used a dark field and a non-reflective tabletop. This time I used a bright field and a mirror tabletop. For whatever reason, I don't find the reflection of the base objectionable when using this photographic style. Do you?

I prefer the second photo over any photo I made of this bowl. That's because the angle shows the undulating shape of the top so nicely and because the front of the bowl is less busy.

Something kinda sexy about the second that did not show through in the darker background images. I like these.

Thanks, Paul. The dark and bright methods definitely project a very different mood. I have an idea about which style of photography best fits a particular style of glass but I haven't been doing this enough to know for sure.

Glass is a real challenge and you pulled it off nicely.

Thanks, Bobo. Glass is definitely a challenge, but so are birds in a very different way. At least the glass moves only upon my command.

I agree. And I think she's winking at you. (I never had trouble finding shapes in clouds either )

Seriously, I'm really impressed with these works of yours. I've done very little studio stuff but enough to know these take a lot of thought and understanding of the light. Great job!

My wife just walked by, saw your comment, and glared at me.
