    Old barn in snow C&C

I wonder if this is too dull? I like the subtle colour and the minimalism but I wonder if the day was just too overcast and the light too diffuse for this to work. It is an early morning shot as well so perhaps I was overly optimistic

It works for me Trevor. I like the simplicity and the subtlety. We don't get scenes like that here.

I should add an addendum to this image. For those of you in more temperate climes; to simulate the photographic experience take two bags of frozen peas and hold them on your forehead and cheeks while viewing.

Well I was doing that a couple of days ago when the temperature was 38 deg C ! Except it was cold beer, not frozen peas.

I'm one of the few that has never seen snow! I wish there was a little more detail in the foreground but other than that it is a remarkable shot!

Just driven through some of it to get to work.

I agree with the views that subtlety and the simplicity is what makes it.

Works for me too. I like the shape, colour and texture of the barn, which is perhaps helped by the low light.

This definitely works for me. I especially like the detail in the barn.

The one thing you might want to consider doing is bringing out the detail in the top, large opening of the barn. Perhaps a second exposure would have been needed that would have allowed you to combine the two exposures.

Add me to the list, Trevor. The simplicity and minimalism are really appealing to me. Very well done.

I like the contrast of the barn with the snowy surroundings...

Thanks Mike: This is the best I could do, I did a maximum burn on the opening to bring up as much as possible. Ain't RAW great! I was unaware there was any detail or colour lurking in the shadow. I really appreciate the advice as it lead to me to attempt this. Better?

Ignore the burn on the lower door frame. I was trying to see if there was anything salvageable through the lower door and forgot to erase the burn tool mark. Didn't see it until I toggled the image back and forth with the original.

Thanks to everyone for all the positive feedback. Nice to hear. And of course this was one of those "What the hell; I may as well take a shot, probably a waste of time" shots as I was walking back to pack the gear back into the truck because the light was so dull and flat. Nothing planned just shoot and go.

This is another shot same time just before I got to the truck. I have enhanced the interior detail as Mike suggested. What do people think relative to the first?

And here is out of camera; you can see what I meant about the lighting. Makes me wonder what else I am missing out on by not shooting on these dull winter days

These work very well, indeed. Have you tried a monochrome conversion?

What's not to love? An old barn, snow, simplicity. I like it.

This is a very popular shot considering you almost didnt shoot it. Add me to the list too . I like that you have shown the out of camera, It allows me to admire your post production.

Very, very nice rework, Trevor. It makes the image look so much more three-dimensional. I would actually leave your post-processing mistake at the lower door as is. It adds character to that pair of sliding doors and looks very natural. That's because the change is on the leading edges of the doors, which are always handled a lot and can look different.

This is my attempt. Black and white is not my forte, I am sure others could do better but it gives at least a taste of it. Seems to work quite well.

Thanks Maja and James for the comments. I add the unprocessed images, as frequently those who are better versed in processing can give me insight into processing techniques. I am glad you think I did well.
