1EV over ISO 3200 with a Nikon D300 is not done. The internally noise booster is then set on 100%. Still I did it. 18.9s long. Using a 18-200mm lens on 150mm.
No AF, so I had to guess, in the dark, the average distance of the fireflies high in the tree.
Two things I didn't know:
In my eyes the color of the firefly light was not yellow but more white/blue and I didn't see this flickering (Morse code.)
Morse Code : A = .- C= -.-. N= -.
Copy from wikipedia:
Tropical fireflies, in particular, in Southeast Asia, routinely synchronise their flashes among large groups. This phenomenon is explained as phase synchronization and spontaneous order. At night along river banks in the Malaysian jungles (the most notable ones found near Kuala Selangor), fireflies (kelip-kelip in the Malay language or Bahasa Malaysia) synchronise their light emissions precisely. Current hypotheses about the causes of this behavior involve diet, social interaction, and altitude.
