    Two Sunsets and a Sunrise

I have been in the Essex River in Massachusetts twice in the past month and got more than a few wonderful sunrise and sunset shots. Here are three of my favorites. The colors are close to natural. I actually decreased the saturation a tad in the sunrise; it was unbelievably yellow. The HDR was taken hand-held using auto bracket and then processed in CS4. I deliberately avoided the HDR look and just took advantage of the added dynamic range for getting detail in the grass.

I like the composition in the last one as my favorite.

They are all three beautiful shots. I think you did a great job with the colors and composition. I especially like the first one because it looks the most natural to me. I wonder though, is it tilted ever so slightly? I really love them all.

Like others above have suggested, these are very impressive images.

I think the sky in the first one is just fantastic - not just the yellow at the horizon, but also the cloud higher up. Glorious.

All are very nice, though the first one is really magical for me.

I wonder if you're using a Nikon camera, as my experience has also been that I have had to tone down the red channel sometimes in images such as these. Perhaps that's true with all manufacturers' sensors, but I have only shot Nikon cameras.

Thank you for your comments. The camera was a GH2, which does not normally over saturate in any particular color. I think the intense yellows and oranges in the sunrises was just due to the very yellow light. On the horizon of #1, I think you're right. I have it tipped a little. The GH2 has a grid you can turn on in the electric view finder, which I use, but I still always correct in PP. In this case, I think I miss-judged the horizon, which is difficult to determine because the shore line is not straight. Easy to fix in Lr.
