    Seven...going on seventeen!

During the hjot humid days of summer, I don't go far from the air conditioning; basically it's butterflies or my granddaughter. I am still trying to produce 'high key' pictures, and this latest attempt seems to have aged Nia by several years, but I think the picture suits the processing. Any more tips for improving this technique would be very helpful

    Hi, Gillie

I'm a fan of high-key imagery, and I think this was a good choice for its use. Beautiful child (though you'd better check her birth certificate for age) and I suspect intensely photogenic. The only thing I may not be wholly enthusiastic about is the degree of blur across the bottom- I think it may be de-emphasizing to the point of distraction. Overall, I like the image very much

    Hi Gillie,

Not much room for improvement on the high key aspect

But I agree with Kevin about the blur.

    cheers,

Thank you, Kevin; I think you are right about the amount of blur. It is part of a vignette and because of the white top to the picture only the bottom part shows. Probably better left out.

    Hi Gillie!

Man, looking at this photo I never would have guessed Miss Nia for a seven-year-old.

They really grow up fast. In fact, if you ask me (which no one did!), too fast. In my neck of the woods they have a saying that goes “she’s as pretty (purty) as a picture (pitcher)”! Ain’t it the truth? On both counts!

Gillie, I think your high key rendition is awesome.

When I first came to this thread, the original shot in your first post came up unavailable. So I scrolled down, reading everyone’s comments, disappointed I couldn’t see the shot.

Then the next photo you posted of her was available. So I don’t know about any blur. But I sure could see why everyone was saying what a great job you did. I’d have to agree with Dave on the high key aspect.

When I finally got scrolled down to the second shot. One thing struck me straight away. I hope you don’t mind me mentioning it as it is a small thing.

Miss Nia’s left iris (camera right) is quite a bit darker than her right one (camera left). I have no idea why I would notice something like that or if it even matters. I just thought I’d maybe mention it in passing while I enjoy your shot of Miss Nia.

    Very nice rendering, Gillie.

Oh, by the way? Does she get her good looks from her Grandpa?

Thank you Phil, Sharon and Terry. Terry, I am not sure why the original picture disappeared, but it probably had something to do with my changing the picture on Flickr, as that is how I post. I know that it mysteriously reappeared, which I found even more confusing. As to her eyes, the left eye was in the shade of her hair, so I imagine that that is what has caused the difference in shades. As to her looks, I guess you think that Gillie is a man's name? In the UK it is an abbreviation of Gillian, and, although there is a family resemblance she is a lot prettier than I or her father, my son

    Hi Gillie!

I guess maybe I did mistakenly think Gillie was a man's name. I apologize for my stupidity (which seems to be a full-time job!). I hope I caused no offense.

But that sure explains the good looks part a lot better!

So I'm now curious! Do you pronounce "Gillie" with a hard or soft "G"?

    Hi Gillie
Taking another look at your portrait reminded me of a picture I took of my God daughter. She is a little older at 16 but you would never guess the age gap !

Wow! Lovely portrait; I really like these high key images, and yes, there doesn't look to be that much difference in age!! Maybe I need to send her back to the right age group:
