    Week 16 - Shot

I was wondering how bad my camera noise was, with high ISO speed. So I decided I needed to take some photos at night to see if I could use more than 400 ISO. This photo is one that I really like.

Shutter Speed: 1/25 seg (Handheld )
f-stop: 4.5 (as fast as my lens can be )
    Focal length: 18mm (28.5mm)
    ISO 1600

I feel so stupid. I have been avoiding subjects because I couldn't get the shutter speed to resonable speeds (>1/60) to avoid camera shake. . But well at least now I know I can do it.

We don't know what's achievable until we try :-) The marvels of modern vibration reduction technology in most lenses now allows us to take photos at much slower shutter speeds. Incidentally, at 18mm isn't your aperture f3.5 when wide open?

A very interesting subject you've managed to find - nicely framed. It seems a bit underexposed to me though - anyone else?

    Hi Vincente,

Now you are in an experimental frame of mind, you can try handholding at much lower shutter speeds than 1/25s, for subjects that aren't moving, blur of the subject won't be an issue and at the wider angles of view, there is considerably less 'magnification' of any camera shake, especially if you don't crop too much in PP.

With practice, good technique, IS and bracing against a firm support, you should be able to match my abilities of shooting at 1/8 to 1/6s. Shooting 3 frames in continuous mode will allow at least one quite sharp one to be chosen for PP.

    Good luck,
