Beautiful eyes, and very good light in this shot. I confess I'm no portrait photographer, but it seems to me the skin tones could use just a bit more warmth. Also, I might have framed or cropped the image a bit differently, with the model on the left side, looking into the frame, instead of out of it. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge of portraiture will be along shortly to be of more help. I do like the shot, though.
I think you're right...warmth is needed.
Typically the shot is with the negative space on the side the person is looking (so she'd be in the left of the frame)...but sometimes I think a person looking off-frame gives it more a sense of motion, or the future, or what's to come...I don't know, maybe I'm crazy...but I think in this shot I like her on that side.
Sorry, but here as well I only get to see an 'entry forbidden' sign (same on all the other pics you posted today)
I see the pics- nicely done. Is the saturation turned up or are her eyes really that shade?
The idea isn't crazy at all, but to capture that "gazing into the future" look, I might suggest shooting from a lower angle. If Colin were available, I suspect he would warn against the "up the nose" shot, but as it is, we're viewing the model from an elevated angle. I think shooting from the same level as the model's face (or maybe just very-so-slightly lower) could work... just keep the model's eyes looking upward.
Looks like servers are putting a block on the images.
I'll let Sean (McQ) know about this.
I edited my original post to link it to a Cambridgeincolor album now instead of my picasaweb album. Hopefully all can see it now!
I have to say she looks a bit older than 6 in your recent photos! Nicely captured. As you've said, I'd prefer a bit more negative space on the right but perhaps consider cropping the left of instead and have her fill the frame.
Thank you for the photo - agree with previous comments about the negative space, and the eyes are wonderful.
Philip
Beautiful image.
As far as where the negative space is? I prefer to break the rules as much as I follow them. I call this balance
In this case though, the total black to the left of her head and the not quite black to the right makes me agree that the balance isn't quite right here. Not bad at all, just a little off. Something I can never see in pictures I take of my own kids
Those eyes would look good either way
How about a square crop?
Would you believe I think it needs even more negative space on the right? Or your daughter moved to the left a bit more.
Brian's square crop works pretty well too I think. However at the end of the day, it's your style and rules are sometimes meant to be broken
