    Processing for Newsprint

I did a quick search for 'newsprint' but didn't come up with much.
I have been asked to shoot a portrait type photo that will be printed in a newspaper ad. I'm guessing maybe 2"/5cm wide but not sure yet. This will be 3 women for a beauty salon.
Is there anything in particular I should do with the processing to make it more newsprintable?
    Thanks

Because of the nature of newsprint paper, it really suck up the ink so you do not get nice sharp edges. I would suggest that you do not try to get the background to busy, keep it simple, a nice B&W shot with good tones. Most of the newsprint we printed on was printed at 75 to 135 dpi. So just give them a good clean shot and they will rip it down to what they need. Hope that helps some.

When I did the school newspaper, our printer (who was the local rag) wanted us to give them photos outputted to 288 dpi. I think they were using 110 line screens.

Newspaper is one step above toilet paper, don't expect to much or fuss over the processing.

    Thanks everyone for your replies.
That's pretty much what I expected. Just didn't know if there were any 'secrets'.

Just an FYI to this, I work in advertising for the 2 dailies here and the rule of thumb is not to use anything less than 300 dpi. Yes, news print is very absorbant but that also means a low res photo looks just awful. And better to have a multi-tone photo as you run the risk of losing detail. If you are taking photos in colour do your own conversion in PS so you can get the look YOU like rather than let the EAP guys muck it up for you.
