Reading EXIF data on CIC posts with a MAC

Does the Mac have a program that i can use to read the EXIF data on posted images on CIC that comes bundled with snow leopard? If not what do members recommend for such a purpose?

    Thanks all

Click on “Get Info” in the Finder “File” menu (command i), then on the “More Info” in the window triangle.

Lightroom, Photoshop, etc. all show the EXIF data.

Firefox does have a nice plugin. Though, Exif Viewer needs to be updated as it is currently not compatible with the updated Firefox.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. Thought that you meant for pixs already residing on your computer.

    Try this: http://www.exifeverywhere.com/

Otherwise, just download the image and use the “Get Info” instructions.

    Hi Mark,

How much success you'll have depends on a lot of things, so don't just pick a random image because soooo many things can destroy EXIF data. Get one you know has it and use that for testing. At best only around 40 - 60% of images you see here will have the useful data still intact.

One good way, independent of platform, browser or OS you are using (because it's a web site) is; http://regex.info/exif.cgi, copy the image url to 'the clipboard', go to this ul and paste it into the top box and click adjacent button.

    Things that typically fool EXIF data extractors;
The image no longer has it
The image is hosted somewhere that doesn't allow right clicks to use browser plug-ins
The image is hosted in such a way it doesn't give a url with a jpg filename

That said, some EXIF data extractors are better than others.
In the extreme, even downloading (if you can) doesn't guarantee success.

    I use this plug-in for Firefox; https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...n/exif-viewer/

    Hi Erik,

This is now v1.70 (for the Alan Raskin "EXIF Viewer", not sure if you were meaning same one) and it works with Firefox 8, which I think is the latest (but I am not a Mac user).

    Cheers,

Here's what I get in Firefox with the plugin. Right click on image and view EXIF info

I use Photoinfo. An old utility but it stills works even on OS 10.7!

hi mark, i think your assuming to much here as if you "save for web", the first thing that gets dumped is the exif data to reduce the size of the upload. hth mike.

    Hi Dinorock,

whats your real name? actually ive managed to download the plugin for fire fox and can now read the exif data on most of the posts on here, so its possible to do it.
