Mick,
Great job capturing not only the peak moment of the action, but also getting eye contact. The exposure here seems to me to be incredibly difficult with the bright highlights on the water, and the seal's head being in shadow because of its positioning.
I'm not sure what your thoughts on this might be, but if you shot this in raw, you could do the single exposure HDR on this one to balance out your details a bit more. Basically, you PP one with the exposure +1 or so, and another with the exposure -1, and combined with the original it gives you your 3 shot minimum for HDR, and then process it as you would a regular HDR set. Or I guess you could manually selectively increase/decrease the exposure to the areas as needed.
Nice shot as is though.
