    Battle of the sexes

Taken earlier this summer in Kensington.
Because in my experience on the streets it is so rare to see women playing Chess, when I came across one playing with a man outside a café, their situation seemed so unusual that I stopped to watch. I really liked their intensity as they studied the board, and when the moment seemed right, grabbed this shot.

    John,

I know you shoot with F...I...L...M and what would be considered disgusting noise with digital images is hugged and revered as lovely grain ( I miss more elaborate emojis) but I think this shot has picked up just too much contrast in the scanning so his pants and her dress are blocked up blobs.

    Otherwise, nice picture, nice construction.

    Lew,
    Thanks for commenting.
I agree her dress has no detail, but even when I tried going crazy with the highlight/shadow controls, there was no detail in the dress to be had.
However, on my monitor I see detail in his pants: the leg seam, back pocket patch and creases at the back of his thigh and knee are all there.
And as for the grain/noise argument? I side with the three of us Filmsters left in the world. I like grain. And while I don't see it here, it's presence in a shot doesn't bother me a bit. Never did. I always thought it added character to a shot. And still do.
The perfection/hyper-reality of Digital images which make every image look like a Ken Danby painting is another reason I dislike them so much.

No problem. Doesn't make no never mind.

Reinforcing stereotypes, you are the educated Briton, I am the good-hearted salt of the earth hick who just got electricity in the holler and enjoys the new fangled Interweb talkin'.

(My son in law always gives me a subscription to the London Review of Books and so I feel a bit uncultured.)
