Just to say that I think this is a very nice image. Beautiful colours, creative and unique.

Unfortunately the only qualified critique I could provide you with is to heal that dot on the top left and a few more, unless they are on my computer screen.

    Re: Floating Peppers

Nice, Travis, although they seem to me to be flying rather than floating. ie moving towards the bottom l/h corner.

(When viewed in litebox, there are a few more spots around the middle area, too)

Great set Travis! The only improvement that I can't even begin to image how you would accomplish is to have some sort of vessel or basket (maybe with some hands on the vessel) in the bottom left of the fist image so it appears that the peppers are being tossed out...

Thanks for the comments guys, I know there are some spots to clean up. Shane, great idea. I'll use that on my next shoot.

The problem with choosing such a plain bright background is that it has to be perfect. You've got a really dark area in the bottom left corner of the last one.

For other variations: Maybe try photographing one bell pepper from many angles and create a composite of all the captures. Maybe a vertical orientation with all the peppers falling into a colander would also work.

I really like Mike's idea and it might be easier to execute than what I had in mind

How hard is it to throw these peppers and take a shot? just asking...

    Excellent images; liked them
Here in Kerala, we call them chilly only; pepper is the other granule thing only

That depends on the effect to be achieved. If the action is to be frozen as in these photos, you would probably need to use a speed light or a strobe. In the most sophisticated system, you would use a motion-detection sensor that releases the shutter. If the action is not to be frozen, everything could be done manually. In both cases, you would have to make many captures and choose the best one.

As for the level of difficulty, it's like accomplishing anything; if you have the ideal tools, setup and assistance, it's easier to make happen. The less you have all of that, the more difficult it becomes.

The Peppers were arranged on a large photo negative lightbox with a white plexiglass top. They were lit from above and the sides with diffused fluorescent lights. I shot them from about a 45 degree angle with a 35mm lens on a full frame canon 6d.

More than once have I used content aware fill/clone tool to rid myself of a monitor created blemish.

    Re: Floating Peppers

While it would definitely be better to stop the action using a strobe it is not the only way.

Only thing is trying to get your camera settings to the point to where you can get a fast enough shutter speed.

But it can be done with a DIY setup.

Sorry for asking that question. That was a tongue-in-cheek one.

I knew that Isabel, maybe for the next set I will try throwing them and see what happens.
