This is really a good one David with those red buttons, are those eyes? If so what are those two nearly black things in front of the head?We usually have black flies, are the colours real in this fly or have you changed them with PP which I have no experience at all? This fly looks cute actually![]()
Excellent shot. You have made a fly look good - no mean feat.
Great image for me... I think that focus is just right with a depth of field is perfect for this. Light and composition likewise.
Great shot David!!! Love that grey sorta shell behind its head, really seperates the hair nicely..more so than the ones with the darker exterior,..very cool bud. Gratz!!
David, that is a superlative image, but when you say that it's a "pretty girl"...we have a serious failure to communicate.![]()
Wonderful image...
Good one David, great detail, colour and lighting in this one.
I managed my first shot of a fly blowing a bubble yesterday but IQ was no where near this but they seem to not worry about your presence when doing this.
Grahame
Binnur, yes this specimen has good bright red eyes. In front of them are the two antennae and the third segment is exceptionally long. Coming out from this segment at right angles are long hairs called Arista.
These are often important for identification; but I tend to stay clear of this form of flies. Something of a real specialist job to get a firm identification.
It looks roughly like one of the Anthomyia or Phaonia species, but that is just a hopeless guess. There are a lot of very similar flies so my photos tend to just be entered as Unidentified Fly
An expert could probably offer a little more help considering the amount of fine detail which is available.
Hi Binnur, nothing changed all as it were so to speakand thankfully Geoff has answered the rest better than i could

Hi Claudio, yes this is the first one i have seen this colour, but i say that nearly all the time, there is such a variation, keeps us interested though!
Cheers John and Richard, thanks for commenting!
Thanks Chauncey, you would think differently if you were a fly,or a spider

Hath smaller fleas that on him prey;
And these have smaller fleas to bite 'em.
And so proceeds Ad infinitum."

Thanks Jack, that was quite poetic,i think?![]()
