We'll just sit back and enjoy watching them as they're posted up.
I need to think of something more interesting than last year. I saw on another site, where a guy made a water bath out of rocks and a small pump. The hummers would lay on the rocks and bath theirself. The images he takes are unbelievable. I want to try it and see what i can get.
Hi Steve, excuse my ignorance but is this a Ruby Throated? If so "little guys" is an understatement. I set up a hummingbird feeder the other day and was shocked today when I thought I heard a bumblebee and looked up to see a hummingbird at the feeder. It really was not much bigger than a bumblebee. I was quite close but did not have the camera outside with me; even if I could have taken a shot, it would have been a huge crop with my 200mm lens. I have not seen a hummingbird around here for quite awhile, but seeing this one today makes me appreciate your shots even more. Great work, and I too am looking forward to the rest of the season. Good luck with the water shots, sounds like there is great potential there.
Wendy
Looking forward to more !
Yes it's a ruby, the only species around here.(west virginia) If you spend some time close to the feeder (they are most active in the mornings and evenings), they will become accustomed to you and allow you to get quite close. They are very inquisitive and trusting little birds. Perhaps they know they can buzz out of there in a flash, if need be.
You may be able to get some good shots with 200mm. I've done it with 300mm , and had them so close i couldn't focus, so why not 200mm. Good luck wendy, hope you get some good one's.
