I'm always in awe of the moon. I love the craters and the lines sprouting out from each explosion.

Wow -- beautifully done. It's supposed to be huge tomorrow night, but we're in for rain, I'm afraid.

Kay from what I understand, that is just a tale. It rises the ocean mere mm and just is not strong enough to be a viable threat, thankfully.

    Nice shot James!

To be honest, I think Ken - the man who used to read pet's paws for a living - "moon man" - Ring is wrong, but, when you think about it, the moon's gravity does raise BILLIONS of tons of water on our planet several feet ... So I'm guessing the weight of all that water must put a lot of strain on the earth's crust ... And I'm guessing that things are most likely to move when that strain is at it's most or least ... And I'm guessing that that'll be when the moon is at it's closest to us ... Which it will be next couple of days ...

    ... So hoping he's wrong!

Nice moon shot. I too believe the moon could be a factor in the triggering of an earthquake because of its gravitational effect on the earth and tides. A local scientist has had a bit of luck predicting techtonic events using the moon and tides as part of the factors. Still the moon's effect is questioned by many scientists. I suspect it would only be a factor when an earthquake is already about to trigger based on other factors. All of which has nothing to do with photography but it's interesting.

Wow... Thats an awesome shot. Love those craters at 9 o' clock. What was your focal length, James?

Well, the moon's gravitational pull does lead to high tides, but it cannot result in earthquake in any case. There have been many misleading predictions. And I pray no more of such devastating natural disasters take place in future.

That is some shot James. Do you use ND filters on a shot like this? My sons telescope has a 'moon' eyepiece filter to keep the brightness down. I was wondering of the same principle is at work here.

I used my 500 mm mirror lens and then I dimmed it with brightness a little. I may have added a little on the plus side with contrast. shutter speed 1/640 aperature value 6.3 ISO 800 I am very pleased y"all liked it,only took about 60 trials before I got it right lol.

I notice you used cloudy WB on that shot. That is an idea I'll have to keep in mind.

    Great shot!
