    Industrial Disease

Met up with a mate to go shooting.....with the cameras.

Turns out there is an old, abandoned MOD/Munitions factory at Boldon - the next village inland from me - that I never knew about. There was a gate but no signs to say Keep Out and there was an old biddy walking her dog across the field so in we went.

Awesome is used a lot these days which has dulled its impact but I feel it is appropriate to describe this place. Loads of old buildings all without roofs and some bunker things that were very, very well sealed and surrounded by massive earth works...hmmmmm.

Quite a few shots but there was so much to point the camera at.

...and yes that is a Leica X1 with a viewfinder attached.

Indeed, I think most of us would be like a kid in a sweet shop with that location. You've probably got weeks and weeks worth of options in there. A super set, Robin.

I've hundreds of RAW files to go through and a raft of HDR sequences to sort.

It would make a fantastic location for a fashion/portrait shoot and some of the building would benefit from a good sunset so after I get through this lot I'll be back for more.

No 2 is a cracker. But you have to spill the beans. The sky is very bright yet you have still got good exposure on both - whats the secret. I love these places we used to have acre upon acre of 1940's factories and camps around here. Sadly most are demolished for housing. I was looking through some back issues of photography magazines yesterday and I read a review on the X1. It gave the impression that value for money was an issue. If these were shot with a Leica I beg to differ. I am seriously thinking of tossing the DSLR when the kids have left and investing in one of these babies....even if the viewfinder costs £250

Number two is a three shot HDR hence the detail.

Not shot on the Leica - its my mates and thats him holding it - and while I'll agree the price is barmy...really, really barmy actually...it produces stunning quality images. I've seen his wipe the floor with several D-SLR's in absolute IQ terms but it is far from versatile being a fixed lens.

I just knew it would happen one day. I have admitted to liking an HDR processed image

What a great collection of images - well edited. I too like those with the HDR treatment. It begs the question, with all the cuts proposed for the MOD, what are they proposing to do with sites like this?
