    The Salty Way

Had a spare few minutes on my lunchtime yesterday so out came the macro lens for a play - nowt else to point the camera at in my work place. Started trying to get a shot of some grains of salt when they ended up looking a little like a night-sky shot.

Looks like one of Saturn's rings, Robin. Clever idea, nicely executed.

    Hi Robin

I really like that. What lens were you using?

    Hi Robin,

I can't really anything to Donald's "Clever idea, nicely executed."

    Well done,

Got the old Royal-Mail Macro Kit out at the same time.

The shot above is pretty much 1:1 with the Nikon 60mm Macro - as close as I could get in other words.

This one shows what a bit of extension and a reversed lens can do:

    The Salty Way

The setup is a nightmare to work with, quite apart from the fact it isn't actually attached to the body so any movement has it falling off the DoF is - well - tiny shall we say so getting anything in the right plane to get a shot is tiresome. Then there is the rather large nuisance of only being able to see through it when the lens is wide open and when you try to stop it down the whole thing moves - again - and you lose the framing. Still you do get very high magnification for very little money.

I hear you with the pain doing macro shots like this. I just bought a PK-13 extension tube and I thought it's that easy to do handheld macro shots! I'm still trying to figure out how to make my shots clearer. I guess I need to invest on a good sturdy tripod.

A nightmare is the best description I can come up with.

I love experimenting but this tries even my patience - fun though.

Ha Ha! One can see what work I do! (I work with drug addicts.) When I saw your post, I thought it was a line of Cocaine! It made an interesting shot, though.
