Don't say so Katy. You just went to that format because you have not yet elected one as preferencial, that's all.

The best thing you could do with your daughter is lock her up for about 5 more years..convent, some place away from all the boys you're going to have to sweep off the porch...Pretty girl and I think the original pose works better because of the hard light...in the longer format, it is less emphasized. it is a good learning shot and I am sure future ones will gain from having made this one.

Since my kids get fed up with posing for me I had to try a new tact. This skateboard is the love of this lads life so it wasnt hard to get a pose out of him as long as SKB could be included.

    Nikon D300 18-200 lens at 85mm. f5.6 1/100sec 100ISO Pattern metering.
Sun low behind subject and to subject right. White reflector in front of subject.

Thank you Jolee for posting here.
She is a nice young lady but perhaps she could benefit from a not so direct light to enhance her beauty.
Most probably you could have placed her in the shadow existing behind her, where the light is softer taking advantage of the reflections where you stand ...
The light would have allow you to get gentle tones on her skin.
I hope you can ask her to pose again and we can then see a nicer portrait

That was a good tactique Amanda

He looks pretty concentrated on his "temporary job" and very proud of his skate.
Perhaps the reflection is a bit strong and his right eye is a bit in the shadow. I assume it has not been easy to convince the young man and harder would be to make him wait for a minute while you were adjusting the reflector.
Tell him he will have a nice picture to look at in his future.
You could then try to move the reflector in a more convenient placement where the light wouldn't be so intense and hard.
Anyway you did a good job. He is posing with much intensity and commitment. All you have to do now is to ask him to repeat.
As he has such a strong look ask him if he likes the black and white picture I made for him.
I think this version is more "consistent"/coherent with his attitude and state of mind

This is more a portrait with "soul" than a simple and innocuous one. If you wish make a real black and white out of the original file. The copy I used is not the best !

If ever you don't want me to post this version here, please feel free to tell and I will erase it willingly
After all what I have done is not what I have written at the beginning
Good background I was going to forget to say

    Surely better Jolee
Now, take care of the light on her shoulder, get her in perfect focus and look for a lighter background.
Also you can pay attention at the posture of her hand. and look for another place where you will have lots and lots of diffused light with her in the shadow area. Don't forget the background.
    Thank you for posting here.
