    Photoshop Brightness Selection

In Photoshop you can select a color range using the select color range tool. Is there a way to select a brightness range in a similar manner?

    Hi Homer,

One that comes to mind that should work is

    - duplicate the layer
    - convert the new layer to grayscale
    - use the magic wand to sample from the new layer only

    Boatman -

The Color Range feature allows you to select Shadows, Midtones, and Highlights. Choose Color Range... from the Select menu; there is a drop down menu next to Select which will allow you to select Shadows, Midtones and Highlights.

    Hope that helps.

I have not tried it specifically but if you make a duplicate layer and change the blending mode to Luminisity you should be able to change the brightenss without affecting colour or contrast.

Thank you for the tips. They both add to my tool kit. Sometimes it seems like the features in Photoshop are endless!
