Your technique is way off, I'm afraid. Don't you know that they only perform for muesli bars or ginger cookies?

We do not have squirrels in Australia and do like seeing them.

A comment if I may about your focus. If you look at the moss on the rock the sharpest focus seems to around this little fellow’s belly. I am not sure where you focused in the shot but with something like this I try to get the eyes but if they are too hard I use the ears as they are usually pretty close the eyes and the DOF is sufficient to get the eyes sharp. Having said that I have tried to get some squirrels when overseas and they move fast.
