Hay Loft Studio - Update

I have been missing from CIC a little over the last month while I finished the renovations to the hay loft. I have officially declared the renovation finished so I can change my thought processes from building mode to use it mode – otherwise I would never stop building.

This was the original 150 year old hay loft over the old stables.





The only was up was timbers nailed to the side of the stable wall and climb through a man-hole. We had to build a new deck and stairs (this is now finished and tidied up).



The final product has new French doors at the end for flow-through ventilation and insulation on the roof wrapped in an unbleached cloth (calico).



As the size of the walls is small with a deep pitch on the roof I could not have any meaningful bookcase. I found some old boards nailed together in the form of a table top and covered in grease and old paint. I sanded the boards back to the original grain and then had to decide what to put them on. Given this was an old hay loft I chose hay bales. This is now my library.



My desk is in the corner near the entrance and my view over the farm is refreshing. Slight breeze, birds signing and no interruptions. Just fantastic.





Now completed I have to recover some costs. I started advertising my workshops at the market last Sunday and have already filled January and February workshops. It is all very encouraging.

Although i don't think the bit about no interruptions is quite right...because we'll all pop up on line just when you're trying to concentrate
