    Badlands Toadstool Garden

Captured a few years ago in the Alberta Badlands. The toadstools (hoodoos) are formed when the softer material under the hard iron stone cap rocks is eroded by wind and water. In this image the geology of 2 eras can be seen. The darker strata laid down when the area was covered by a shallow sea and the lighter from later deposits of volcanic ash and bentonite.
    C&C welcome.........

That brings back memories of our visit to Writing on Stone Provincial Park in Southern Alberta this summer. The hoodoos there were stunning.
