You won't be surprised if I say that I like the fuchsia. I have never seen a real one and I wonder if the leaves in the upper left corner could use a bit of burning and maybe a slight warming of the bluish colour.
As for the door, It is of course a well executed photo but itis definitely not my cup of tea.
P.S. The forum is slow but usable tonight.
I like that they're completely different subjects but both lean heavily on color and texture. The fuchsia shot has beautiful separation against the black background, and the detail in the petals and stamens really stands out. The old blue door works for the opposite reason the peeling paint, worn brickwork, and faded colors give it a lot of character. Funny how two photos taken a day apart can feel like they're from entirely different worlds.
Dan, 2 nice images. Floral subjects are not my forte but I certainly appreciate them. I am inclined to agree with Andre's suggestion regarding the upper left leaves.
The blue door is a subject I can relate to. I like the weather worn brick and paint. It seems to me the bottom 1/3 of the image could be brightened a little......
I have a similar image taken in Butte, Montana. Perhaps I will post if the Forum cooperates - 2x tries to get this done.
Thanks for the comments.
Re the leaves: I agree. This photo is slightly soft, so I think I probably won't finish it. It's a stack, handheld, with the flowers in a hanging pot outside, which is wasn't staying put. the background was tan paint, so I swapped in black. Re the bricks: the lower ones were quite a bit darker in real life, but there's no reason I can't even it out a bit.
Andre: fuschsias are amazing. You should check in good nurseries. They are often sold in hanging baskets. There are lots of varieties. Here's another variety we had hanging on our porch years ago:
Here's the SOOC original of the doorway:
