Not sure what this is. The background doesn't look like normal blur; it looks like intentional camera movement or something done in post. How did you do this?
There is a big split among flower photographers, between those who want sharp detail all the way through (the camp I'm in) and those who prefer very shallow DOF, with some of the flower out of focus. I assume you were aiming for the latter. If so, I would crop, mostly from the top but also some from the left.
No trickery Dan, simply close focus at f2.8 for very shallow depth of field.
I like the idea of shooting the flower from the back specially with the light coming through the petals. My concern is with the extremely small portion of the frame that is actually in focus. I don't think that it works well at least at the small size on the screen.
