I agree--a very good catch.

Have you considered cropping? I find the borders, particularly the high-contrast detailed stuff at the top, draws my eye away from the people. Maybe something like this?

I think these things are much easier to spot when you are coming to an photo fresh rather than looking at one that you have worked on. What got me thinking about this is that I found myself focusing on the high-contrast bars above the phone booth. That got me thinking about crops more generally.

I have had the same experience in the other direction, where I didn't see the value of a crop until someone else pointed it out to me.

Yeah, maybe that’s exactly why, and this has happened to all of us, we edit a photo and then, the next day (or even just a few hours later), we suddenly notice what wasn’t quite right… and can’t believe we ever missed it in the “final” edit.

When you spend too short time/long on the same image, your eyes just get used to it. You end up focusing so much on one thing, the contrast, the light, some tiny detail, that you completely overlook other stuff that would jump out straight away to someone seeing it fresh. That’s why coming back to it later, with a clear head, can feel like you’re looking at a different photo.

It happens to everyone. And it’s a good reminder that editing is also about knowing when to stop, take a breather, and come back with a bit of distance.
