    Bracket fungus?

I believe this is a type of bracket fungus. It was growing extensively on the trunk of a tree and the image shows only part section of it.

It looks like a stack of pancakes!

Brackets can be tricky to identify but if they are large (about 12 ins wide) and covered in spores looking like cocoa powder I would suggest one of the Ganoderma species. Small and rather thin (about 3 or 4 ins wide) would probably be Trametes versicolor. Either way it suggests the tree is in poor health.

Thank you Geoff. Based on its size, it must be one of the Ganoderma species it was about 12 wide and about 3 feet in total from top to bottom.
