    I don't want to be discouraging, but if you want to pursue this sort of macro photography, I think you need to learn to focus-stack. The DOF is too small, and in particular, out of focus areas in the foreground are usually distracting. In contrast, OOF areas in the background are often used to highlight a focal detail.

    My go-to focus stacking software for many years has been Zerene. To my knowledge, the only serious competitor is Helicon, which I have never used. It's sometimes not entirely simply to do, as another thread on this site indicated recently.

    oops. Didn't see your signature and didn't realize you are shooting mostly film, so my suggestion may not be useful at all. film is very tough for macros of this sort. I suppose one could scan individual negatives and stack them, but I've never heard of anyone doing it. All the macro photographers I know of shoot digital, and some are small-sensor fans in part because of the greater DOF at a given aperture.
