    Pula Amphitheatre

Of the roughly 350 amphitheatres that the Romans built, this one was #6 in terms of size, These are the "expensive" seats. Entry to the area was free, but seating was by social status, with the most important people in the front row and the cheap seats (not shown here) were high up and away from the action. This one is the one in Pula, Croatia.

I liked the way the harsh mid-morning light lit up parts of the seats.

The picture is not showing up. Posting the link directly in a browser result in an "internal error" message.

None of my photos on this forum which are links to images originally posted to Flickr are showing. Seems to be a Flickr problem.

The contemplation of these stands reveals far more than the ancient stone itself, appearing instead as a metaphor for the social stratification you describe in the text.
The curved layout of the steps conveys order, hierarchy and rigidity, while the light fragments the areas, just as status fragmented the experience of each spectator.
I like this image for its dynamism and the touches of light accentuating the partially lit steps.

Sorry about that Andre and David. There was an error in the link to the Flickr image that I have fixed.

It is working now and the image was worth the wait. I think that I would probably have left the railing on the right out of the frame.

This is different and captured my attention. Enjoyed the "cheap seats" narrative; and I am happy with the railing - it provides a boundary for the scene.
