    Flickr.....

I received notification yesterday of changes to Flickers "free account" that I, and assume other members use to upload images to CIC.
Starting mid May the maximum size will be restricted to 1024px......

I am on the paid version, and use it as my main off-site back up (in addition to editing images to post here).

The Flickr blog suggests that the limit is for downloading, not uploading. See blog.flickr.net

    Re: Flickr.....

Oh yes. Flickr. With its seemingly never-ending policy of death to the freebies by a zillion cuts.

I've used it (the free version) in the past, when the going was good and my patience was better than it is now. Even then it threw up problems all the way. Eventually I decided to withdraw, which I did, after quite a battle to effectively retrieve my posted images. It was a struggle, but eventually I did it.

I am now looking at a relatively inexpensive, given my budget, place to post architectural images I want to sell to a select range of clients. My notion is to steer them to Flickr to look at my work. Notwithstanding the obvious danger that would-be clients may then get all curious about what else is on Flickr, and start surfing around for similar images, and end up either getting them for free or downloading and using them with a few modifications to disguise them. As hsadly, happens to many photographers I know who go online with their work in such places as Flickr and the other usual suspects.

It may be that the paid version of Flickr provides advantages not given to those of us who have used the freebie.

Or I may well have to bite the bullet and go with a pre-established web site. Which would rather stretch if not strain my already small budget for things like food, the well-being of our cats, maintaining my 1991 Audi, and a little travel when the coin jar gets full enough for me to afford an airfare.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions to make about all this, I will be all ears. Many thanks in advance.

1024 pixels sounds a bit on the smaller side even for casual sharing on this website...

It's still better than having to host your own files, though!
