People say eyes can tell a thousand stories.

I haven't been on here in a long, long time. I have been unbelievably busy, what with college, work, Christmas and just generally socialising.

I don't really have any new projects to show you, so here is a picture of my eyes that i took on Sunday. The intention was it to be a picture of myself, but i thought it would be interesting just to show my eyes instead.

Pretty eyes, albeit a touch on the soft focus side. Focus was too tight leaving the iris and sclera a smidgeon out of focus...you wouldn't have lost anything on the impact had you increased the dof by a tad.

Can't quite make out the reflection. Is it you holding a camera, or is the camera on a tripod in a room with bright windows in the background?

    Hi Rebecca,

It's good that you look up to us (which is a pun on the angle of the shot).

No time like the present, better get out and shoot some stuff

Hope college is going well and we're glad you popped back to 'look us up' (groan)

    Cheers, Dave

    (nice pic by the way)

Yep, you can't squeeze everything in when you're a busy student. So, the work will have to go. Can't let it get in the way of socialising!!

Good to see you back here and posting.

I wondered about whether it was the best choice to have the sides of your face showing and, as a result, a bit of that background, or whether you could have done an even tighter crop and had your face filling the frame. But, I suppose that would have meant your eyebrows being right up against the edge.

My thoughts too. I would probably have just cloned the skin into the edges of the frame in this case. I do like the reflections in the eyes as they bring them to life but as Chris says the eyes are just oof. You should perhaps have gone with f/8 here

Can you see now why I cave when she looks at me like that and says "Dad can I......"

Could you try it with, "Dad, I know this really, really nice person who wants a Canon 24-70 f2.8 L", and see what happens?

Cool picture. Love the catch light. Were those windows? I wouldn't change a thing about it.

I think you've found a project Rebecca. Keep photographing your eyes.

Nice picture. If you are looking for more subtle reflections maybe use a fairy lights in the background.

It's nice as is but a single source catch light might be better. If you play with your images you might try converting the sking to BW or duotone, cloning out the catch lights on the iris and pushing the saturation on the eyes. It won't be you but it might be interesting to see how it would look.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. This photo was in fact originally a self portrait of myself, however I really liked my eyes therefore i cropped the photo and edited just the eyes. I may try it with cloning the face to the edge of the frame. The reflection was a large window and with it being snowy outside it was extremely bright, but i feel it gives my eyes some life. I will try the fairy lights idea as I can imagine that will look lovely and magical.

    Donald,
First I need to get past the 'Dad, can I have a 'Green 1956 Split Screen Bay Window VW Camper Van' just due to the fact I think that will take the longest to get a yes!

I'm new, so this is my first dive in. Just wanted to say that I like the touches of background on the sides of the face. They give the face a lovely oval definition in a very subtle way, giving the eyes a more vibrant canvas. Just a thought. -em
