WAHOO! How simply wonderful. I absolutely love my NIK software and use it as a plug-in to my Photoshop CC 2018 on every one of my images...

I really think that Google wanted an editing program aimed at Facebook type photos...

Probably we'll have to pay for it, Richard, but I did that anyway (when it was owned by NIK). But at least its safe. Which is the most wonderful news.

I don't really mind paying for it, if and when they come out with a revision. However, since I once paid the $250 USD to Google for this version, I hope that I don't need to pay for it again.

BTW: there are some decent books on NIK available from Kindle...

Wonderful news. Thanks for posting it. The DxO page implies that it won't be free (by omission--it says that the old version will remain available for free), but if the price isn't exorbitant, that's fine with me.

Would be a nice gesture if they offered those who did support the original software a discounted price.

They're a new owner. They haven't seen any of the original money that we paid.

All Google is interested in is user data to mine and sell to advertisers - I'm guessing it didn't work out and they dumped it.

Seriously interesting. To date, DxO lacked any local adjustments, which for me seriously limited it's use (though I really rate its RAW conversion and PRIME noise reduction on my m4/3 photos). Wait to see how the integration works.

I'll be interested to see what DXO actually does with the software. The press release suggests that some of the functionality will be integrated into DXO Photo Lab (to use the new name!). However it seems that the “Nik Collection 2018 Edition” will probably be available as a set of plug-ins? If so, with what software will it be compatible?

I just read on dpreview that it will continue to be available as a plugin for Photoshop and Lightroom, anyway, and that the new owners are interested in getting input from the Nik community as to what direction to take it in.

    Happy news, indeed!

Dave - DxO labs currently has two other plugins that work integrate with Photoshop and Lightroom; Filmpack which emulates the look of some current and legacy films, as well as some funky looks and Viewpoint, which allows for perspective correction. Their main product Optics Pro integrates with Lightroom.

I expect that they know that Nik is used by both Photoshop and Lightroom users and will continue that part of the business.

This is really wonderful news. Like others on here I really enjoy using NIK as a plugin for PS.

Re: If you use NIK you will love this!!

Thanks for the extra info Janis and Manfred. It does look like good news for PS and LR users. I was thinking in terms of other software too - Paintshop Pro, Capture One and Affinity Photo to name a few. Currently, for example, there is some compatibility between Affinity Photo and the Nik plug-ins however it is by no means comprehensive.

As a side comment, it will pose some interesting dilemmas for the DXO marketing people (using their products to make life easier for users of other prime editing software). A bit like Sony selling sensors to Nikon.

It also seems that Nik's technology is already "fully integrated into DxO's non-destructive workflow". With a pretty cheap upgrade from OpticsPro 10 I think it's going to be worth a look. (It's now called Photolab, btw).

Great news as I am just looking at the Topaz offerings. I will wait and see how this new development pans out before I act. Some and I mean some Topaz plug ins are 'quite good.'

Do you managed to download the Nik from the DxO?
After inputing the email address nothing happens, rather seems to me that it's an email address collector..

I haven't downloaded it for a while, but DxO are not selling yet? It is still being operated by Google. The NIK announcement by DxO is just that at this stage, an announcement.
