Donald has plunged - new SmugMug user

After all the prevaracation, huffing & puffing and indecision I've finally taken the plunge and bought myself a website on SmugMug.

I'm due a debt of gratitude for the advice I got from some folk on here via Private Messages, most of which I've taken and some of which I've not (which I'll probably regret - but can edit in later).

I'd be grateful for any additional comments others might like to make - either here or on the Comments page.

It's all here (Oh God. What have I done?)

I've just looked at your new site Donald and it's beautiful. You are a wonderful photographer.

Absolutely spiffing, old boy. Chocks away an' all that bally bosh. Just the ticket for the jolly old world wide web.

Just a small point. If you go to easy customisation\photos you can specify a unique msg for when those SOBs try to right click and download your images. Mine says '©Rob Marshall' rather than the convoluted standard msg. The copyright sign is ALT/0169. Like © so!

    The images look dead cool.

    Hi Donald,

Nice job! I have a smugmug page too, but not the pro version. I like the layout of the site quite a bit. If I get good enough I may upgrade so I can customize things a bit more. For now, the standard does well for me. Lightroom3 has a native plugin now that allows uploads to smugmug as well as 2-way syncing of tags (I don't use windows much so I can't speak to the details). I'm mostly in linux, but there's a digikam plugin that makes uploads easy there as well. I'm not a fan of the java uploader.

Anyways, great site and photos! Enjoy!

Tremendous site Donald & whoever your colour consultant is - the green text works a treat with the mostly mono images
And the images themselves are inspiring

    Getting the best ...

I'd recommend people visiting use F11 on their browser, open a gallery and enjoy the slideshow full screen (like I did).

    Cheers,

First impressions are important, and when I clicked on that link, I was blown away by the photo there. You know I'm a detail freak, and I'll try to comment, but first I have to say that the impact of that first page is simply spectacular.

In the "about" section, how about some information about why you prefer monochrome, and where you want to go with it?

In "DMacK's Dozen," you end by saying, "... see if there are any ...." Maybe link to the comments page?

    Cheers,
    Rick

    Well done Donald!

Oh - and it was good to be able to put a face to the name at long last!

Thank a certain lady from southern Ontario who hangs about in here (latterly in the mist an awful lot), who responded to a PM

Dave - I know. I'm still trying to find out how to do that one. It behaves differently than all the others in galleries.

Excellent idea, Rick. Thanks. Just got to work out how to make the hyperlink to that page (other than just saying 'Go to the comments page')

I tried the slideshow. Great presentation.
Thanks John. Yes, I was quite pleased when I saw that feature and realised how it worked.

I had to draw myself away and back to work.
When I am office based, I always visit CiC during a lunch break. It's always difficult to stop and get back to work

I think you missed out the next sentence about fantastically handsome, dashing, rugged, etc, etc.

    Donald

I don't think you can protect the homepage image, unless there is a work-around for it.

You might want to read this http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=161044

    and also this http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?...otect+homepage

Yours is now 800px on long side. Hardly big enough for anyone to print from.

Very nice Donald, I really like the introductory image. Scotland looks a bit cold though, mind you it is only 10 degrees here.

Looking good sir, nice to see a collection of black and white for a change.

Funnily enough, one of my other hobbies is wine too... not only drinking it but making it.

Great looking site. Congratulations. You have a very artistic and professional site...

I love smugmug but, have not taken the troouble to greatly customize my site. However, I like it just as well as it is:

    http://rpcrowe.smugmug.com/

What i really like about smugmug is the ease of uploading images and also the ability to change the presentation looks with a single click of the mouse. I also like being able to share images to other websites and blogs.
