Saltburn Cliff Lift and Pier

I was at Saltburn on a cold November evening hoping to capture a large moonrise, although this trip was a day or two prior to the full moon. On this occasion the cloud cover was just too much preventing any moon shots at all. This image was earlier in the evening and has until today been left unprocessed.

The Cliff Lift is a water balanced (notice the water pipes between the two sets of rails) arrangement but in this image the two carriages are in their parked positions.

I believe the water element is effectively a closed loop, if that makes sense. In the video within the link I posted you can see the water tanks below one of the carriages.

Excellent video... i think water is sent to sea and not recirculated.... By the way, while we run down the tram, does it give the same experience as when we go down way in a Ferry's wheel?

No, because you can always see something in front of you, the thing I find disconcerting with a Ferris wheel (UK spelling), is that you can't see what's holding you up past 50 degrees or so

That is true to a certain extent that the feeling comes from what you see/not see in front of you; but it also because of the feeling that you are going/falling down, which you feel even if you sit with closed eyes. I have tried that in Ferris wheel to sit with closed eyes; but the helpless feeling remained there

That's true, I prefer the slow ones on which the cradles don't swing as it stops and starts (otherwise I'll get motion sickness too).

Thanks Rita I'm pleased you like this image. Sorry I can't help with clarifying why you find the location familiar. However I believe a number of films and TV programs have featured the structure.

I agree. We have all taken shots Funiculars but what makes this different for me is the fact that there is the continuation in the form of the pier jutting out to sea.. Nice shot. Time we visited the area again.
