    A bit of Fungi

Out for a walk today - I was hoping for some nice Fungi shots but some idiots had been there first and felt the need to destroy most of the fruiting fungi - this one caught my eye and I decided to macro the gills - the light was very good and the colours really popped but for me the gill structure was what it was all about - Crimson Waxcap, Hygrocybe punicea

Lovely colors, light and details Mark I'm suprised to read in the Wikipedia that it is edible , although colorful mushrooms are usually expected to be poisonus.

Indeed and thank you Binnur, but often even though edible - they are not always worth the effort. Some of the most poisonous are greenish yellow / tan coloured and white - Death Cap, Amanita phalloides - no antidote to its poison, Destroying Angel, Amanita virosa
Ah Roy, Pterry bless him how very true
    Thanks Jean

Hi Nandakumar, thank you. Unfortunately not, it was a bit damaged so I only took the detail shot

This is an excellent composition. It reminds me of shots of sliced Cabbage!

When I photograph fungi,I would like to be able to photograph the gills, but short of minaturising myself, like Mark, I have to make do with kicked-over ones.

Cheers John, normally I end up with this angle -

    Clitocybe geotropa
    A bit of Fungi

This was a nice one as it was at a reasonable height in the fork of a branch around eye level

    Velvet Shank, Flammulina velutipes

Thank you Binnur, I found out something new about them today - they are the 'wild' variety of the japanese enoki that are grown and sold commercially, to look at you would never guess as the enoki are very long skinny white fungi
