    Hi from UK!.

    Hi guys
First post and Hi from sunny(?) York in the UK. Had a hiccup or two getting registered but ok now!.
New to dslr`s but not new to imaging as my other hobby is astronomy where I take stellar spectra with a cooled ccd. I`m presently trialling about 6 post processing packages Lightroom,DXO optics,Acdsee ultimate 10,On1 pro 10,Aftershot pro3 and Photodirector 8. I`m also pretty pleased with Darktable and Rawtherapee used on my Linux partition. I also like Nikon`s own Capture NX-D which is pretty useful and as I`m not a pro most of these should be fine and I don`t want to go down the Photoshop subscription route. Thinking of hanging on to try On1 Raw as it promises great things, I`d be interested in what you guys use please.
    cheers
    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Welcome, I use Lightroom, Elements, and also have Gimp installed but rarely use. Also have NIK software.

I use PS CC these days and ACR within that for RAW processing.
However, I use Nikon's ViewNX to rate and cull images after offload memory cards via Nikon Transfer, and although I have a system that means I can easily find a particular shoot, it doesn't help me find individual images images, or group some shoots together in a "collection", so I am seriously considering giving LR another try (since it's included in my subs). I tried it in 2014, but got confused over how it works and gave up, eventually un-installing it. This time I have prepared by watching some tutorials on-line first.

Years ago, I did trial Nikon's predecessor to NX-D, but couldn't 'get my head round it' back then, so went the Elements route instead, hence slowly where I am now.

Could you do me a favour please?
Could you click Settings (right at the top),
    then Edit Profile (on left)
and put your first name (Steve) in the Real Name field
and where you are (York, UK) in the Location field,
then click the Save Changes button below and to right,
this helps everyone give you more personal and relevant answers - thanks in advance.

    Cheers, Dave
