Helpful Posts: Unfortunately, most of these were shot in early morning light at higher than I like ISO's but you get a shot at Eagles pretty close up, chances are you're going to take the shot anyway.

In the USA, if you shoot an Eagle with anything but a camera and it is way serious. This includes pursue, shoot, shoot at, poison, wound, kill, capture, trap, collect, molest or disturb (16 U.S.C. 668c; 50 CFR 22.3). The 1972 amendments increased civil penalties for violating provisions of the Act to a maximum fine of $5,000 or one year imprisonment with $10,000 or not more than two years in prison for a second conviction. Felony convictions carry a maximum fine of $250,000 or two years of imprisonment.

This prohibition extends to eagle parts as well. There is a local case pending where a farmer up on the Lake Ontario shore of New York was caught with eagle feathers, and the Feds got after him. They are TOUGH on those who harm the birds in any way.
We have about a dozen nesting pairs here in the Western New York area - in the wildlife preserves east of Buffalo and along the Niagara river between Lakes Erie and Ontario. I wish there were more, but it's much better than even 10 years ago.
