    Anxious for fall colours.

Cajoled my dog to hike a Gatineau Park trail in search of fall colours yesterday afternoon. Alas, we were still too early and will need to return. The scenery was nonetheless marvelous but we will be making the hike a few more times in the coming few weeks, I am sure. C&C most welcome.

Thanks for posting. I was thinking of heading out to Gatineau Park, but it looks like I might want to wait for another couple of weeks. I've gotten to the Carbide Willson ruins once in while the leaves were near peak, but it was on a weekend and there were so many people there that photography was rather challenging. I'm hoping to try things on a week day this year...

For earlier colors just go higher. Altitude or latitude take your pick

A few years back we did fall colors three times. Early Sept in Alaska, mid October in Maine, and end of October on Carolina coast.

The "highest" area within a couple of hours of driving for us, is Algonquin Park, in Ontario. The fall leaf report suggests that 40% of the leaves have turned and there is 0% leaf fall. It is usually the place that turns first, so I would say we are still a good week or 10 days from peak there. The places at lower altitudes are going to start peaking in about 2 weeks.

The camera is ready. I just hope the weather behaves and that the colours are better than last year. They were fairly dull compared to usual.

Manfred, I have been to Carbide twice in the past ten days - weekends definitely don't work due to the high volume of visitors. Last Saturday we were five very frustrated photographers. Week days are much better and my dog and I had the place to ourselves for an hour yesterday. I think I'll try an early morning visit once we have some further leaf colouration.

Thanks Maurice, it is indeed a place with tons of green space and plenty of places to do some interesting photography.

Love the first image, the log leads me into the picture and it just opens up to a wonderful view.
The other ones are good to.
