I took this image while on holiday last week and I would like your views in relation to the exposure. Is it to dark, do I need to lighten up the shadows and the overall image?

Good attempt Dave... IMO pulling up the shadows in the foreground will benefit this image.

I like it as is. There is enough detail in the dark areas to keep them from just becoming a blob of black but not so much that they detract. Just a little more might help bit I think it's fine as is.

Hope you don't mind me doing this.
Did a quick one minute edit in Photoshop, nothing more than contrast adjustments, slight vibrance layer and a simple sharpen for web.
It brings out a little detail in the foreground and makes the palm tree pop out a lot more. You could improve more than my one minute edit

I liked it as such; Mitchell's improvement has worked....the red roof matches the colour scheme; thank God it was not blue
