In my previous Arnol Blackhouse thread (LINK) I made reference to another Blackhouse site which we visited whilst we were on the Western Isles.
These images are from a Blackhouse village. This village as well as the museum has holiday accommodation.
Apparently these holiday homes were still in use as family homes as late as the 1970's.
#1 the exterior view
#2 The location looking towards the beach
#3 The interior of the house at #1
#4 As you will see this house has a real chimney and fireplace, complete with a stand for the kettle!. Unlike the one in my Arnol Blackhouse thread where the kettle just hung above a fire in the middle of a stone floor. The kettle stand reminded me of a little ditty (from a very long time ago) we would recite when we met up with friends on bicycles, so the kettle stand had to be captured for posterity.
I've flipped this image to make it easier for you to to read the lettering. The ditty/phrase went like this "Ride a Raleigh ride a wreck, Ride a Hercules break your neck"
PS. It seems that the above images have sharpening issues due to me downsizing them from my Flickr photostream![]()
