Crossing Jalapao - From Ponte Alta to Mateiros

Hi. The images below show some places we visited during the day in which we crossed the Jalapão state park, from the city of Ponte Alta to the city of Mateiros. It was a 180km off road adventure. At some points we were "swallowed" by the thick layer (about 50cm) of sand, having to turn the 4X4 LO on to get rid of it. At other points we had to drive slowly and very carefully to avoid having a tire cut by sharp stone emerging from the "road". This road is quite desert (actually, Jalapão itself is a desert) and any problem would become much bigger than it's real dimensions, as there is no phone signal nor anybody close by we could ask for help.

At the end of the day, having an extremely cold beer with my dad, it was quite a funny crossing to remember. Thanks for viewing. C&C welcomed. Regards,

#4 - This ones were shot from the inside of the car, through the glass. I barely had the chance to get the camera, stop the truck and shoot, but I think it works as a rare record of a coulpe of Hyacinth macaw that showed off in front of us, crossing the road. They are listed as "VU-Vulnerable". They stood shortly on a tree and then flew again.

Good set, Otavio, all well composed. The one I like the most though, is the 7th.

My favourite is #6...it reminds me of my youthful days of growing up in such a beautiful surrounding. Thank you for taking us with you in your journey, especially in #6.

1, 2 and 6 for me Otavio. No phone signal is a little worrying but it is not that many years ago when there wouldn't have been a phone signal anywhere anyway or am I showing my age?

Hi Otávio,

The Sussuapara canyon looks enchanting, I can see why you have showed us more from there.

I have one small suggestion - that in #6, if mine, I wouldn't have included (or would subsequently have cloned out) that thing (dead leaf?) poking in from the left edge of frame, as I find it attracts my eye and draws it out of frame; sometimes despite the stunning view beyond.

Glad you had a good/safe journey and I suspect you'll both remember it for quite a while.

I totally agree, John! Maybe we are too much used to the recent technology advances and forgot that we never had such gadgets before!
