This was a poor photo taken on a deadly dull but very windy overcast day at Gudefoss, about 30 km from Akuyureri in northern Iceland and thus is sort of informational purposes. The water is icy cold runoff from the nearby snowfields and glaciers and the current below is very strong and very cold. There are no barriers to prevent anyone from approaching the edge and dropping 50 or 60 feet into the water.
There is no rescue equipment with 30 km so chances of survival are slim to none. I guess the Icelandic attitude is that if you are dumb enough to get yourself in that water, the gene pool would be well rid of you.
